Today, as I walked along the serene riverbank, I pondered the unique cadence of each leaf’s descent, its path determined by the whims of an invisible wind. The fleeting moment of each leaf’s journey mirrored the dance of words on the page, each writer composing a symphony distinct in its essence. In the stillness of nature, I found solace in the realization that the beauty of creation lies in its diversity. Through this, I was reminded of an enlightening article I once read about the unparalleled beauty of individual expression in the literary world.
None. Each writes to their own style. Each is praised based off of their own style.
It is this plurality of expression that Italian philosopher Giacomo Leopardi might term the “infinite in the finite,” where individual creativity captures the boundless essence of human experience. The distinctive styles and voices of writers echo Leopardi’s reflections on the infinite potential within each finite moment. Meanwhile, French philosopher Simone Weil’s idea of “attention” underscores the act of profound silent receptivity to the world around us, revealing that through attentiveness to one’s own inner style, a writer crafts a unique lens onto the universe.
Artists, too, channel this individualistic perspective. Consider the evocative works of Dutch painter Marlene Dumas, whose intense portraits reveal unsettlingly intimate truths, or the ethereal landscapes by contemporary artist Echo Eggebrecht which transport viewers to dreamlike states. Both encapsulate through their art the ineffable quality of personal vision, reaffirming that each artist’s distinct approach to their craft, like each leaf’s journey, is worthy of admiration.

In these moments of contemplation by the river, I am reminded of the profound connection between each human experience and the boundless creativity inherent within us all. May we continue to celebrate and honor the singular voice each person brings to the world. With this, I wish you a day rich in discovery and deep inner peace.
